Soffit Vents

Soffit vents (intake vents) are installed along the eve of the house and allow cool, dry air to enter the lowest point of the attic.

Most houses do not have adequate intake ventilation and can therefore not properly remove damaging moisture and heat from the attic.  If the quantity of intake vents are not adequate for the home size or are blocked with debris, no amount of exhaust vents will allow the attic to breathe.  Millsquote.com will recommend the correct number of soffit vents to install.  Generally, you should install as many soffit vents as can “fit” on the eave.  Mills recommends spacing soffit vents 4 to 6 feet apart, for aesthetic reasons.  Also keep in mind that soffit vents should not be installed directly in front of a window, per fire code.
